I had been very busy the past weeks, what with turning 30 and working on multiple projects at work and at my other work. So I thought to post a card that I love love love and made today for the people who made my Birthday a very happy and enjoyable occasion.
Totally by chance I was on the SSS Wednesday Challenge blog and saw they were featuring Ranger and the theme is "Favorite Technique". So as I was planning to use my two favorite techniques (actually 3 as I used embossing folders for added texture)on this card, I am entering it in the challenge!
Don't you love when it all works out like that :)
First I want to say how grateful I am for my birthday presents- a Sizzix Big Shot (woop-woop), Little B Sentiments Dies, MFT Die-Namics STAX Dies Pierced Heart, Joy Crafts Cutting and Embossing Squares Dies and Joy Crafts Cutting and Embossing Circles Dies. All of these are used on this card.
In the Little B die set there is this 'Thanks a bunch' sentiment which I love so I decided to use that. It also inspired the design of the card and I put a whole bunch of die cuts in different shapes and with different textures.
I began by water coloring 3 different backgrounds with distress inks. I used Mustard seed, Spiced marmalade, Picked raspberry, Peacock feathers and Seedless preserves. I am not going to explain how, as all of you probably know the joy of creating with these awesome inks. If not, there are many awesome ladies on YouTube who show many techniques. One that I love is Kristina Werner. I just want to mention that on all the water colored pieces I did 2-3 layers of inking and spreading, mixing, spraying, smooshing etc:)

Some of the materials I used |
I used the backgrounds to die cut all the shapes you see on the card. One of them I half dry embossed using a flower folder by I don't know who, as it was a b-day present and I threw away the packaging way too fast. Another I half embossed with a Sizzix folder. I cut out all the shapes and started playing around with layering them on the card base until I was happy. When I was cutting them out I tried to place them on spots where the ink had made interesting patterns.
I cut the sentiment 4 times from card-stock (as a way of thickening the sentiment and giving it a bit of dimension). I dies cut the top layer from one of the water colored pieces, I used for the shapes. I made sure that it was mostly a contrasting blue and green on top of the purple heart.

I assembled all on the card base and popped the top most layer of shapes on foam squares. I used clear Wink of Stella on the two hearts and the sentiment and voila, my card was complete!
I hope you enjoy and see you soon!
Toodles!

Such pretty colors, Vezz - distress inks are the best! Love the hearts and the embossing! Thanks for joining us at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge!
